Finding alternatives to surgery and drugs

Holistic or alternative health care is about taking control of your own body mind unit and learning to treat the entire being rather than treating isolated symptoms. If you have a minor cold or a serious disease it all stems from the same lack of balance. The seriousness of the illness is simply an indicator of how out of balance you are.

We are taught to treat individual symptoms or “dis-ease”. But in reality these aches and pains and strange symptoms are our body’s way of speaking to us. Through pain and puss our body gives us friendly indicators that our overall system needs to be brought back to “factory ready” settings.

Is decline inevitable?
We are told that it is inevitable that as women over 40 we should expect, dimming eye sight, back pain, menopause issues, all sorts of cancers, bone loss, arthritis, and various types of memory loss and other mental problems. The list goes on and on.

Who profits from our pain?
There is a major cover up, albeit unintentional. Medical empires profit by selling us pills and surgery and potions and lotions instead of dealing with the real underlying cause of our suffering. Back pain can be frightening if you do not know what is going on, and this fear can actually make the pain worse. Years a go when a friend of mine had chronic back pain I came across Dr. John Sarno’s books, Healing Back Pain and The Mind Body Prescription. After reading his books my friend improved her chronic condition quite a bit.

Dr. John E. Sarno, is Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University School of Medicine and attending physician at the Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, New York University Medical Center.

Dr. Sarno’s colleagues are up in arms because he speaks out against surgery except in very rare cases. It seems that when ever someone discovers an alternative method for treating illness that does not require surgery or drugs people call him a quack and ignore the great results he is getting. After all how would the medical community make any money if we all simply treated ourselves holistically?

Often the simplest treatments are the most effective when it comes to back care, once the fear of surgery is gone healing often begins spontaneously without doing much more than thinking differently.

Improving Eye Sight After 40

I was given a prescription for glasses as early as my late 30s but proceeded to do eye exercises using the Bates method. I stopped using the glasses because after reading about how the eye works I realized the glasses would eventually make my eye muscles weaker and I would need stronger and stronger prescriptions every year. But middle aged vision can be halted and even improved.

Everyone on my mother’s side of the family wore glasses. They all spent many hours a day reading and fixating the eyes at one close distance so they where extremely near sighted from practicing looking only at things that where a foot or less a way all day every day. They thought this was genetic.

I went to a vision improvement specialist for two sessions. When I was in her office she was able to help me see 20/20 looking at an eye chart when only minutes before it was blurry. Once this was demonstrated to me it was clear that by learning to focus my eyes naturally I could improve my vision.

Lately I have come upon the Vision for Life program which is a clear and succinct way to learn eye exercises.

Ways to improve your vision

Our eyes naturally relax when focused about 3 to 4 feet in front of us so anything closer or farther than that is work. So it will help your eyes to focus away from your computer about 3 feet in front of you every hour or so.

Another good break for the eyes is gently cupping the eyes in your warmed palms. Rub your hands together vigorously and then gently rest them on your eyes. Be sure not to press on the skin around the eyes with your hands because you want to improve circulation not cut it off.

The amazing thing about vision improvement is that you learn to see better by doing less not more. So your goal is to stop straining to try to see but to learn to gently focus your eyes and keep them moving around naturally without fixating them.

Blinking is important. your goal should be to blink like a shy school girl all day long and bathe the eyes in healing fluids. Learn to let the eye flow over objects in a relaxed way with out fixating.
